Find archives of business networking lessons at www.GenieNetwork.net   I have spoken to so many of you who have been to my Art of Networking™ sessions who have had great success in today's marketplace.

"Insanity: Expecting different results from the same set of behaviors ."

Change forces you to grow, stretch, create new, see opportunities you would have never seen.  Change can be uncomfortable.

Many of us are in a daily rut.  That rut becomes fur-lined and forbid it should ever change.  When it does change we become panicked, resistant to the new idea or concept.

One thing in life that is a constant is change.  Many of us have been forced to take on more tasks because of the changing workforce.  Some have to do with less.  Some have to learn to do with more.  Others have started their own business and change working for someone else.

I met a lady who in her mid forties has now had to take a job after owning her own businesses for years.  She said "I have never worked for anyone else other than myself.  I am now forced to work for someone else with the decrease in sales and profits."  As we chatted she somewhat resented that she made the choice to work for someone else.

As we chatted we talked about what could be learned at her new place of employment and how she could capitalize on working for someone else.  We talked and discussed the benefits she now has and how she could make her existing business grow.  I could clearly see as we talked about the benefits of the change she was making that she began to embrace the change and capitalize on it.

A couple of weeks later we ran into each other again.  The conversation we had was totally different than the conversation we had the few weeks back.  She now embraced her new opportunity.  I asked her what had changed.  She said my attitude.  Really, how is that?  She replied, I have insurance that saves me a great deal of money, I am able to pay my overhead with ease and do more marketing.  If my projections are correct it would be cheaper for me to hire another part-time employee to assist with the work load of my business.  I can pay off my business debt in half the time and continue to make it grow.  Instead of feeling guilty I am not there everyday I now manage the business from a distance.  I have empowered my employees. (She has one full-time and 3 part-time)  I am grateful by taking an outside job I do not have to lay off the people whom I have worked with over the past seven years.

It is my way of surviving and growing the business during this tough time.  My schedule allows me to negotiate and purchasing for the business.  Fall is our busy time and I am already looking at how the business will handle the work load and the growth that we are projected to have.  Because I am not taking a salary from the business at this time I am able to keep my loyal employees, create a new fresh marketing plan to grow the business.

I have learned so much talking with fellow employees at my new job and their views and perspective on products they purchase has given me a new view of my business.  As we discussed her business and the difficult changes she made in her personal life of moving, taking a position with another business and not being a part of the daily routine at her office she now embraces the change and has changed her attitude of how she handles her business on a daily and weekly basis.

Change of our attitudes sometimes is the only thing that stands in the way of our success.   Your attitude of how you handle everyday tasks can make the biggest difference in your world.

Changing your attitude makes your day fly by, makes you happier and others seek you out and want to do business with your because of your attitude.  You become more successful.

Many business professionals had to make changes in employment, from under-employed to non-employed and having to take on much more from the job you had.  Your attitude is key in handling all of the change.  Some have to make changes in the style of living and how they spend money.  Many have started a new business.  Micro businesses have always been the main stay of America.  Hats off to you.

The most empowering change is the change that takes you down a path of the unknown.  Sometimes it is scary.  The one thing that I have learned is that the most success and memorable parts of my life have always come during a change.  I have learned to embrace change.

When I my position was eliminated from a company I spent 15 years at I was devastated.  My plan was to retire from there and live happily ever after.  I was in my fur lined rut not challenged, somewhat bored not growing, advancing or feeling I was contributing to the world.  Looking back at it today I now can say - I was given the opportunity to do what I always wanted.

Embrace change and you will capitalize on it.   It does matter what the change is - whether it is personal, business, attitude or life changing all changes will make you grow and see more opportunities.

The Genie Network provides you with the tools to create and build a business referral network and grow your business.

Business networking is about talking to people.  Learn to be clear and concise of what you are looking for.

Last week we discussed Business Networking and distractions.  This week let us chat about the dream
.  Your dreams of what, where, when and what you want to be.

Dream

noun

1. a succession of images, thoughts, or emotions passing through the mind during sleep.
2. the sleeping state in which this occurs.
3. an object seen in a dream.
4. an involuntary vision occurring to a person when awake.
5. a vision voluntarily indulged in while awake- daydream- reverie.
6. an aspiration- goal - aim-  A trip to Europe is his dream.
7. a wild or vain fancy.
8. something of an unreal beauty, charm, or excellence.

verb -used without object

9. to have a dream.
10. to indulge in daydreams or reveries: He dreamed about vacation plans when he should have been working.
11. to think or conceive of something in a very remote way (usually fol. by of): I wouldn't dream of asking them.

verb -used with object

12. to see or imagine in sleep or in a vision.
13. to imagine as if in a dream; fancy; suppose.

14. to pass or spend (time) in dreaming (often fol. by away): to dream away the afternoon.

adjective

15. most desirable; ideal: a dream vacation.
Verb phrase
16. dream up, to form in the imagination; devise: They dreamed up the most impossible plan.

Over the past months we have chatted repeatedly about setting goals, taking action, plan your plan then work your plan.   Living the dream.

To make your dream come true you must have the following:

a. A Vision
b. A Passion for your vision.
c. Determination you will achieve.

As you can see dreams are very simple.  It is in the execution where they get lost so how do we all make our dreams come true.  Think of the Olympic athletes.  They have a vision, passion and the determination to achieve.  Some give up hours of personal time, families move, financial strains that go beyond the average thought process.  The one thing they all have is the dream.  A vision of them winning the GOLD MEDAL.

How does this relate to you.  Think about it.  You have a dream.  Maybe it is to retire early, a worry free retirement, good health, a family, a home, a successful business or may-be to be great at what you do.  Each business professional has different dreams.  But how to achieve and make them come true - the formula is simple and the same for all.

First you must determine what your dream is.  Define, write it down and be very clear of what you really want.  If it not clear and concise it will be foggy and you will not have a defined road to get there.

Second you must have a passion to achieve.  Each day as you look at your vision board (we talked about these in September) you see yourself already achieving your dream.  Vision boards are very very helpful.  Your passion for your dream will propel you through times of doubt, obstacles and more.  Your true passion will drive your determination in the tough times.

Third determination you must be determined.  Believe in your passion to sustain the sacrifices to get there.  In a conversation I was told of a person who wants to be a millionaire by the time he hit 40.  He had his vision.  Set up an account.  Located business professionals to help on how to make his money grow.  Calculated a plan of what he needed to do.  He sold his car.  Paid cash for a used one.  Bought a Moped to get him to his first and second job.  Made a strict budget and sticks to it no matter what.  He is going to make his target of a million by forty!  Why?  Because he has a clear vision of what he wants, he made his plan of what he needs to do and set his goals and last he has passion and is determined to accomplish his dream.

Think of the athletes.  They have a clear and concise vision, they plan, practice and take the steps to get to the Olympics and they see themselves accepting the Gold Medal.

What is your dream?  What steps have you taken to make them come true?  It takes more than saying I am going to.

Start dreaming and create your vision - now work on making it come true.

See yourself accepting your Gold Medal.  Is it becoming a millionaire?  A trip? Financial security? A business? Paid off mortgage? Retirement?  A new home?  Your passion and dreams can come true - GO MAKE IT HAPPEN - START TODAY!

Today let us discuss the Art of Networking™ - Getting Organized

Each month every business professional should take a hour to develop your monthly goals and meetings.  Because this is a large part of your business referrals which equate to sales which develops into your income.

Mention the word "networking" - and most people do not understand it or may have some idea of what it is but need to learn the process.  Do you really understand the process, benefits and dynamics that link people together?  Genie Network is about teaching you that process and connecting you with the right people.

Last week we discussed Business Networking presenting a solution in a multiple stream business.  This week let us chat about distractions.  Distractions are the procrastinators dream of excuses.

dis⋅trac⋅tion -noun

1. the act of distracting.
2. the state of being distracted.
3. mental distress or derangement: That child will drive me to distraction.
4. that which distracts, divides the attention, or prevents concentration: The distractions of the city interfere with my studies.
5. that which amuses, entertains, or diverts; amusement; entertainment: Fishing is his major distraction.
6. division or disorder caused by dissension; tumult.

We are all victims of distraction.  Distractions can wear many faces, are clothed in many styles and come to us in many forms.

Over the past months we have chatted repeatedly about setting goals, taking action, plan your plan then work your plan.

So today is the day I write my newsletter.  I have my plan for today.

1.  Get up and dressed.
2.  Look over my day - while I drink my coffee and breakfast.
3.  Read my email and answer.
4.  Write my newsletter.
5.  Look at a new Blackberry.
6.  Call and reserve rooms for upcoming classes.

Sounds pretty typical for most of us.  We all have things we need to get done.   I would think most of us would agree.  Here is how my day so far has played out.

1.  Get up 2 PM.  I just got dressed.
2.  The phone rang while I was drinking coffee.  Chatted with a friend for 20 minutes.
3.  Opened up the computer - check on a game I play for relaxation.  The phone rang again.  Talked with a business associate for 35 minutes.
4. Read and answered email.
5. Shower and get dressed.
6. Have some lunch - missed breakfast.
7. Started a load of laundry.
8. Looked at the clock - it is now 2 PM. I have been up since 7:30 a.m.

DISTRACTIONS!

I wonder how many of us go through our day maybe not the same identical distractions but we all have our diversions.  What would have happened if I would have worked my plan?  It would be 2 PM. the newsletter would be in your inbox, the dates set and I would be on my way to look at a new phone. (which will probably wait till Friday now)  The point I am trying to make is we all have things that pop up.

What if I would have gotten up dressed, breakfast and did the work I planned to do before I ran my errands.  I could have picked up the voicemail and called my friend and business associate back at my scheduled phone time.

Each day we all have those calls, tangents we direct ourselves to and tasks that could wait till their scheduled time.

Many of us along with the distractions fall into complacency.  Well I have this deal or I know this will come to fruition and we become totally distracted from new opportunities.

It is much easier to answer the phone, play a game, go shopping, take a extra long lunch, I will call them later or I know this will come through why work on different angles or plan new business.

HELLO! THESE ARE ALL DISTRACTIONS!  Yes, I am guilty too we all are.  It is the easy way out and that is what is comfortable to us.  If we think outside the box it requires effort, if we let the phone go to voicemail and it is a friend well friends are important.

Distractions are quiet, subtle and you do not realize they are there until it is 2 PM. and you say " Darn, I was going to ?"

It does not matter what it was you will know what distracted you and what you ALLOWED to take your time.  Distractions and excuses come hand in hand.

We are all guilty of being distracted from our goals.  Whether your goal is a newsletter, a project, contacting new customers, following up with existing customers or planning your next business strategy they are all important.   Distractions sometimes are welcomed and refreshing some are not bad.  We just need to be cognizant of them and control the number of them or you will find yourself in your plan at 2 PM and just getting dressed wondering where did the time go.

The Genie Network provides you with the tools to create and build a business referral network and grow your business.

Business networking is about talking to people.  Learning to be clear and concise of what you are looking for.

If you missed last weeks lesson you may view the archives at GenieNetwork.net.

In summary - Imagine where you would be if you controlled distractions for one week.  Try it - make a conscious effort for one week, then look at your list of what you accomplished in all that distracted time.  Reward yourself with a couple of hours of distracted time to ponder your success.
