Wed, 08 Feb 2012 06:02:03 +0000 Dothan residents unhappy with buffer area for development Although some residents disagree, an attorney for the developer of Cottonwood Corners said Tuesday it is making a good-faith effort to be a good neighbor to a nearby residential neighborhood.
According to the Dothan Eagle, an area of land behind Cottonwood Corners designed to be a buffer between the development and Azalea Park has been declared in violation of a city ordinance regulating overgrown weeds and other growth.
Residents also believe the developer has not done enough to maintain all aspects of the buffer, not just the overgrown weeds.
Wed, 08 Feb 2012 06:02:03 +0000 Gadsden may review licensing for cash advance centers Councilman Deverick Williams said the Gadsden City Council should consider a one-year moratorium on issuing licenses to businesses that offer check cashing, payday loans and title loans.
According to the Gadsden Times, Williams said at Tuesday’s council meeting that although the city can’t permanently suspend issuing those type business licenses, it should consider a moratorium.
Williams said a moratorium would give the city the opportunity to study some of the measures passed at the state level affecting cash advance centers and legislation that is being considered at the national level.

Council President Reggie Copeland acknowledged that traffic near the intersection was already “horrendous,” but he said the store would be a net positive for the community.

Houston has the best 10-year record. It gained 236,700 private-sector jobs over the decade -- from an annual average of 1,975,600 in 2001 to 2,212,300 last year.
Second place belongs to Washington, the only non-Sunbelt entry in the top 12, with an increase of 158,300 private-sector jobs in 10 years...
